Our Story

In 2007, Luther & Katy Kirk of Pulaski were looking for a business opportunity to ease them into retirement, “pre-retirement” they called it. They met some wonderfully talented folks at ShipOnSite Wake Forest in North Carolina, and in 2008, ShipOnSite Fairlawn was opened on Peppers Ferry Road. For six years, Luther & Katy thoroughly enjoyed operating the store. It allowed them to make hundreds of new friends from the community, including great customers, fun eBay sellers, knowledgeable parcel drivers, and similar small business owners. They depended on the great resources of USPS, UPS, FedEx and DHL as well as talented employees like Judy, Connie, Tom and Barbara to provide an important resource to the community. In 2014, as the store lease was expiring which required another three year commitment, Luther & Katy met Jeff Caldwell who became the new owner that summer. The Kirks’ retirement was then official.

Jeff Caldwell, who grew up in Radford, was one of Ship on Site’s customers who didn’t want to see the store close down with the services it offered in the area. Jeff has had a successful career managing businesses both in retail, wholesale, and distribution. With deep roots in Radford, Jeff and his family stay very active in the community. Jeff serves as Executive Director of the Friends of Claytor Lake, is on the board of the Radford High School Foundation, also owns Clear Technologies of Virginia, helps his wife Anna with her therapy practice for Autistic kids called Spectrum Therapeutic Services, and is an active supporter of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America.

In the middle of 2016, Jeff had become concerned of the frequency in which customers came in and said “I had no idea you were back here” or called asking how to get to our location. So plans started to move from the back corner of the Village Oaks Shopping Plaza to main street in Radford. With the help of the terrific team of people at Price Williams Realty, NRVShipping opened its doors on June 1, 2017. With increased visibility and more square footage, NRVShipping will start expanding its services in both copying and printing for the Radford community and New River Valley.
